Royal Mail to Provide Exclusive Truck Parking

1st May 2019

Royal Mail identified the need for added truck parking in the UK and have become the first British postal and courier business to open their depot and contribute towards meeting the parking need. By using the smart, SNAP booking system, Royal Mail is able to utilise the empty spaces in one of their active locations and generate supplementary revenue for their business.

The Depot Parking Site, located in Atherstone is situated within convenient reach of various, well-used motorways, including the M42, M6, M1 and M69.

Royal Mail direct drivers to a numbered space in one of the dedicated 31 marked zones which are ideally situated away from the hustle and bustle of the working depot. The area offers walkways and lighting to deliver safe overnight parking. Spaces can be booked securely through the go-to app for HGV drivers, intruck, online or by calling the SNAP team on +44 (0)1603 777242.

By investing in their infrastructure, Royal Mail have ensured that their site is safe, secure and comfortable for truck drivers throughout the UK and Europe. The Depot Parking Site contains security personnel who perform routine patrols, in addition to CCTV, fence line technology and access control barriers.

Security staff ensure that all drivers have the correct health and safety clothing to be on site and will issue high visibility jackets on arrival to avoid any accidents. These are collected on the driver’s departure from the site.

The location also boasts a brand-new, purpose-built welfare unit. It includes a sociable kitchenette area that offers space for drivers to cook their meals and interact with others. Electric showers are available and free of charge and ensure that each driver will always be able to enjoy a hot wash after their long day on the road. Male and female toilets are separate and are both cleaned daily.

An efficient maintenance facility is already present on site and currently repairs any misfiring Royal Mail vehicles. The engineers at Atherstone have explained that they are happy to help with any minor repairs whilst staying at their Depot Parking Site.

After a driver has completed his stay, he or she will be checked out by security and they can continue on their way to their next destination.

The Royal Mail said, We are happy to form a partnership with SNAP to assist with safe and secure parking. At the Royal Mail, we were looking at solutions to help with when we have unused space at our logistic centres. We want to be able to provide a nice stop over for SNAP customers whilst providing good welfare facilities, security and a good night’s rest.
